Male Infertility Evaluation and Testing at The Turek Clinic, San Francisco

Male Infertility Evaluation at The Turek Clinic, CaliforniaTraditionally, the health care response to a couple with infertility has been for the female partner to visit the gynecologist for an evaluation.

The male partner may or may not be asked to give a semen analysis. If the semen analysis is abnormal, couples are often shuttled straight to assisted reproduction for IUI or IVF and the infertility issue bypassed. In the modern era of managed care and cost-containment, this sequence of events is now inappropriate.

Best Doctors AwardBoard certified Dr. Turek, awarded to be one of the "Best Doctors in America" for the past 5 consecutive years, recommends the methodical evaluation of male infertility to acquire 4 kinds of information (Figure 1 under Patient History).

Then, a decision is made to pursue surgical or nonsurgical fertility treatment; if neither is appropriate, assisted reproduction can be invoked to overcome even the severest forms of male infertility. View also our video "A Window into Male Infertility".
