VASECTOMY REVERSAL Roughly 600,000 men undergo a vasectomy annually. About 5% will change their minds and have a vasectomy reversal later on. A vasectomy reversal is a microsurgical procedure that reconnects the male reproductive tract where it was interrupted by a vasectomy. The most common reason for vasectomy reversal is remarriage and a desire for more children. Other men in long-standing relationships have changed their minds and would like more children. There are occasional unfortunate individuals who have lost children and want to have more children. Although vasectomy has historically been considered a permanent procedure, current advances in microsurgery over the past 10 years have greatly improved the success rate of vasectomy reversals. Dr. Turek has an international reputation and is a fellowship-trained microsurgeon and performs vasectomy reversals regularly. His experience with vasectomy reversals is published, as are several of his innovations. He has trained over 50 urology residents, fellows and practicing urologists around the world in vasectomy reversal techniques. In Dr. Turek’s practice, 40% of the patients he sees have a second obstruction that requires epididymovasostomy and 25% have failed previously a vasectomy reversal procedure. Most of his cases are referred by urologists who do not feel comfortable performing a vasectomy reversal on men with older vasectomies because of the high likelihood that an epididymovasostomy will be needed. Dr. Turek is also comfortable tackling men with traumatic, infectious or congenital conditions that require microsurgery. Because of his experience and skill as a master surgeon, his complication rates after vasectomy reversal are extremely low and his success rates are very high.
