Erectile dysfunction is primarily age related and can begin in a man's 40s. The most common causes of erectile dysfunction are related to diseases that affect blood vessels. It can be a precursor to heart disease. Situational erectile dysfunction may be due to anxiety or stress, for example in cases where sex is scheduled for infertility treatments.

Dr. Turek provides guidance on a variety of approaches to treating erectile dysfunction. Viagra and other drugs are a well known treatment, but medication is ineffective for many. There are many local therapies that produce erections, as well. Counseling is a third treatment option depending on the cause.
