Schools In! Time for A Sex Quiz

Ok, you have been reading these posts about men’s health for months, maybe even years. Now that the Labor Day holidays are now over and done and school has begun, it’s time for a little quiz. Number two pencil’s out…

1. True or False: A healthy man always wants sex.

Tricky, but false. Although men, on average, have a higher libido than women, the statement that “men always want to have sex,” is an exaggeration. According to the Kinsey Institute, 54% of men think about sex every day, or several times a day, but 46% think about it a few times per week, and 4% a few times per month, or less. Many things besides testosterone influences sex drive, including good old-fashioned stress and poor sleep. Complicated lives complicate sex drive.

2. True of False: For a man to be good in bed, he should be able to keep it up for at least 45 minutes straight.

False: Wouldn’t this been fun if it were true all the time! In fact, every man is different. Although drug makers warn us on TV about erections lasting for several hours (which in fact can be painful), the average erection lasts 15 to 30 minutes. To humble us even further, the average time for American men to reach sexual climax during sex is 7- 9 minutes. That’s it.

3. True or False: After 5 hours of sleep, a 10-hour day at work, helping a little with dinner, and finishing some emails, he was exhausted. He went to bed, and his lady love wanted sex. Something must be wrong with him if he doesn’t respond, right?

False: The elephant in the room here is stress. Stress comes in many forms: financial, physical, emotional, travel-related. Sleep issues are a real, live, wholly underestimated form of physical stress. You really need between 6.5 and 7.5 hours of sleep nightly. According to sleep researchers, people that live the longest also sleep the most.
OK, lets mix it up a bit and throw in some multiple-choice questions:

4. In anticipation of a romantic encounter, and to help him be the best that he can be, a man takes Viagra. His next move should be:

A. Watch Mad Men, a stirring drama to stir the loins.
B. Go to the post office and renew his passport.
C. Eat tacos and drink beer.
D. Play strip poker with his romantic encounter.
Answer: D. Viagra and the other erection pills do not provide an instantaneous erection. It can take from 20-60 minutes to work. Not only that, it helps enormously if you actually want the erection to occur and not become distracted by this and that.

5. Good sex ALWAYS involves:

A. Multiple orgasms from your partner.
B. Whatever looks really freaky in the last porn film you saw.
C. Kinky stuff.
D. Leather of one sort or another.
D. None of the above.
Answer: E. In our society, exceptions to any rule fascinate us. Here, extreme sex performance acts, characteristic of pornography, are the exception. Sex was designed by Mother Nature to be satisfying when undertaken in many different ways, and in many different forms, all of which can be intimate and pleasurable without having to go to extremes.
How’d you do? Great! Go to the head of the class.
