Nitrous Oxide Vasectomies - An LA Exclusive!
Dr. Paul Turek of The Turek Clinic realizes that fear of pain or discomfort is one of the primary concerns of vasectomy patients. In fact, fear may inhibit you from even considering this practical, permanent form of birth control.
Dr. Turek and our team pride ourselves on our patient-centric focus, and we are always evolving to provide the best care.
If you can believe it, we make vasectomies fun!
With patient comfort our foremost priority, Dr. Turek introduced the minimally invasive, minimal-touch “no-scalpel vasectomy” technique. To further reassure you, nitrous oxide vasectomies are now exclusively offered at The Turek Clinic (at no additional charge). Dr. Turek is one of the only vasectomy specialists to offer nitrous oxide in the U.S.
You may already be familiar with nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” from your dentist’s office, as it is commonly used for fillings and other types of dental work in patients of all ages. Nitrous oxide is one of the safest forms of sedation available today. The gas takes effect almost instantly and wears off within minutes following treatment.
If you are worried about pain or tension during your vasectomy, Dr. Turek can put your concerns to rest and discuss nitrous oxide in more detail with you. Together, you will confidently make decisions about sedation and pain management.
Benefits of Using Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is a popular way to calm tension, reduce pain and eliminate anxiety during office procedures for the following reasons:
- Simple to administer
- No operating room or local anesthesia required
- Improves upon already offered lowest pain rates
- Fast-acting for almost instantaneous relief
- Very few (if any) side effects
- Patients remain awake and fully responsive to questions and verbal cues
- Patients feel in control throughout the procedure
- In most cases, patients have no memory of the procedure
- Reduces visit time by 30 minutes
- Suitable for nearly all patients
A Safe Choice for Sedation During Vasectomy
Nitrous oxide is administered through a soft rubber mask placed over your nose and mouth. You simply breathe in and out normally, and the mask regulates the amount of nitrous and oxygen you receive. Within a few minutes, the effects take hold, and you should start to feel relaxed, warm and comfortable. Your arms and legs may tingle or feel heavier or lighter than normal. You will not fall asleep or feel nauseous. Some patients describe the effects of nitrous oxide as being in a dream-like state of mind.
Throughout the procedure, you will remain conscious and able to respond to all of Dr. Turek or our team’s questions and verbal cues. If at any point you start to feel dizzy, tired or uncomfortable, let us know immediately and we will lower the level of sedation.
In addition to nitrous oxide, Dr. Turek will quietly and carefully administer local anesthetic to prevent any pain in and around your testicles.
Your vasectomy procedure is a quick, in-office procedure and should be completed within 20 minutes. Toward the end of the procedure, the nitrous you receive will gradually be replaced with oxygen and the effects of the nitrous will quickly wear off. Within a few minutes, you will feel like your normal self again — not foggy, forgetful or lightheaded. You can safely drive yourself to and from your procedure.
